Do you dream of a stylish caravan where you can enjoy carefree summers? Or do you have an old model in your driveway that could use some TLC? Good news: renovating a caravan is easier—and more fun—than you think. In this article, we'll take you step by step through the renovation process. From cleaning to painting, from upholstery to styling. Get inspired by our own projects and discover how you can transform your caravan into a second home on wheels.
Why renovate a caravan?
The charm of a vintage caravan often lies in its very essence: the compact size, the retro lines, the nostalgia. But with a clever restyling, you can give such a caravan a completely new life. And that doesn't have to be expensive or complicated. Moreover, you can create something truly unique – entirely in your own style.
- ✅ More sustainable than buying new
- ✅ Unique, personal design
- ✅ Budget-friendly restyling with impact
For example, take a look at our Chateau 320 , which we transformed from yellowed to fresh green with our Daintree Green caravan paint .

Step 1: Clean and prepare
Start with a thorough cleaning – both inside and out. Remove stickers, cobwebs, and sand. Use St. Marc degreaser to degrease the surfaces.
- Remove any loose parts (such as reflectors or lights)
- Clean the roof extra thoroughly – that is often where most of the dirt is located
- Let everything dry thoroughly before continuing with sanding or painting
Step 2: Masking
A good base is essential for a beautiful end result. Tape everything neatly with masking tape: windows, rubber seals, lights, and the license plate.
Step 3: Painting the caravan – show your true colours!
This is the fun part. With the right caravan paint, you can give your caravan a completely new look in just a few coats. We always recommend a CaravanPrimer as the first coat, followed by our CaravanSatin .
Our top colours are:
- Whitehaven White – fresh and classic
-
Daintree Green – modern retro
Note: Adhesive film seems like a quick fix, but it often causes problems in heat, rain, or abrasion. Painting is durable, wear-resistant, and much more aesthetically pleasing.
Step 4: Restyling the interior
A fresh coat of paint indoors can do wonders. Think white cabinet doors, light-colored walls, and perhaps an accent color on the countertop. Combine that with new upholstery (like a linen look) and you'll have a fresh, inviting space.

Step 5: Styling and accessories
Now comes the fun part: decorating! Think retro lamps, rattan chairs, linen curtains, or a string of lights. Don't forget the outdoor rug and a matching parasol. Less is more – choose a style and carry it throughout.

Frequently asked questions about caravan renovation
How long does it take to renovate a caravan?
That depends on how thorough you're going to be. For a simple paint job and styling, you can be done in a single weekend. If you're also renovating the interior, allow a few weeks.
Can I paint any caravan?
In principle, yes, as long as you degrease, sand, and mask thoroughly. Our caravan paint adheres to aluminum, plastic, and wood. If in doubt, test on a small area.
